Lupinol is found in edible fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants and has a wide range of pharmacological activities such as anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.

Pharmacological effects
1.Anti-tumour Effect
(1)Inhibitory effect on melanoma Lupeol has inhibited growth and induced differentiation of mouse melanoma. The induction of melanoma cell differentiation is achieved through the activation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAKP) pathway, and the dissimilarity of lupine ring C-3 structure plays a key role in the activation of the MAKP pathway. The mechanism of lupinol's inhibitory effect on the metastasis of malignant melanoma is mainly related to the Wnt/β-linker protein (catenin) signalling pathway, but not to the MAKP pathway.
(2)Inhibitory effect on mouse skin cancerLupeol has an inhibitory effect on skin carcinogenesis and the expression of its tumour markers.
(3)Inhibitory effect on breast cancerLupeol has growth inhibitory effect on breast cancer cells. Lupeol inhibited both estrogen recepxor (ER)-negative and positive breast cancer cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. This suggests that the inhibitory effect of lupinol on breast cancer cells is not dependent on ER, however, it is related. lupinol on human epidermal growth factor recepxor 2 (HER2) in breast cancer cells.
(4) Inhibitory and apopxosis-inducing effects on prostate cancer cells In endocrine-related tumours, in addition to breast cancer cells, lupeol has inhibitory effects on prostate cancer. Lupeol has growth inhibitory and apopxosis-inducing effects on prostate cancer cell lines LNCaP and CWR2Chemicalbook2Rr1 in a dose-dependent manner, the mechanism of which is mainly the activation of fas recepxor-mediated apopxosis pathway by lupeol. In addition, lupeol also had a significant inhibitory effect on prostate cancer transplant tumour growth.
(5)Inhibition of pancreatic cancer and induction of apopxosisLupeol inhibits the growth of pancreatic cancer, and inhibition of the Ras pathway can induce apopxosis of pancreatic cancer cells.
(6)Inhibition of hepatocellular carcinoma cellsLupeol inhibited the self-renewal ability of tumorinitiating cells (TIC) in vitro and in vivo. In addition, lupeol inhibited the tumourigenicity of TIC cells in thymus-free nude mice, and down-regulated the expression level of CD133, a marker for TIC cells.
(7)Inhibitory effect on leukaemia cellsLupeol has growth inhibitory and apopxosis inducing effects on leukaemia cells. The inhibitory effect of lupinol on leukaemia cells is related to the carbonylation of lupine rings.
(8)Inhibitory effect on other tumoursLupeol has an inhibitory effect on head and neck tumours. Lupinol has a certain inhibitory effect on human ovarian cancer cells.
