Natural foods originally contain some alpha lipoic acid, such as in liver, spinach, cauliflower, potatoes, meat, heart and kidney. It has a low solubility in water, about 1 g/L (20°C). It is soluble in 10% NaOH solution and soluble in aliphatic solvents. Soluble in methanol, ethanol, chloroform, and ether. Lipoic acid powder is also known as alpha-lipoic acid.

Alpha lipoic acid powder has a chiral centre and therefore has both R and S conformations. Naturally occurring lipoic acid is a white crystal with only the R configuration, and only R-configured lipoic acid is able to covalently bond to lysine residues via amide bonds to function as a coenzyme. Synthetic lipoic acid is a mixture of equal proportions of the R and S configurations and is a yellowish powder that is highly soluble in lipid solvents.
Application
Antioxidant and as a coenzyme of e.g. pyruvate dehydrogenase and glycine decarboxylase, exogenous lipoic acid is reduced by two or more intracellular enzymes. This reduced form influences cellular free radical scavenging processes. Increases glutathione synthesis, regulates transcripxion factor activity. Decreases the phagocytosis of macrophage myelin. Vitamin analogues for the treatment of acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, hepatic coma, fatty liver, diabetes mellitus and other diseases and efficacious health care.
1,Help patients reduce dependence on insulin and hypoglycaemic drugs
α-Lipoic acid is a fat-soluble and water-soluble universal oxygenator, and the effect of alpha lipoic acid is more durable than other antioxidants. Lipoic acid can balance blood glucose, promote glucose absorpxion, improve blood glucose control in diabetic patients, so that patients can reduce the use of insulin or hypoglycaemic drugs.
2,Protect the nerve tissue of diabetic patients, help treat peripheral neuropathy
Overseas research has proved that αlpha lipoic acid can significantly improve the clinical sympxoms caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and has been recommended for the adjuvant treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy in Germany for more than 30 years. αlpha lipoic acid protects nerve tissues of diabetic patients, and helps to treat inflammation due to the deposition of protein in the nerve cells.
3,Alpha lipoic acid is a super antioxidant
The antioxidant capacity of alpha lipoic acid is 5-10 times that of grape seed, which in turn is 20 times that of vitamin C. It is 60 times that of vitamin E, combining the antioxidant capacity of vitamin C with that of vitamin C. Vitamin E 60 times, both fat-soluble and water-soluble properties, can be absorbed by all tissues and organs.
Supplementary Information

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a vitamin-like substance often referred to as "nature's perfect antioxidant". It has earned this title because it is a very small molecule that is efficiently absorbed and easily crosses cell membranes, including the blood-brain barrier. Unlike vitamin E, which is primarily fat-soluble, and vitamin C, which is water-soluble, ALA quenches water- or fat-soluble free radicals inside and outside the cell. In addition, ALA extends the biochemical lifespan of vitamins C and E as well as other antioxidants.
Lipoic acid should be an essential supplement for every person with diabetes or mild hyperglycaemia. As an essential nutrient for liver cell repair, lipoic acid can also prevent and delay the onset of diabetes through diet, exercise, weight control and supplementation with small doses of alpha-lipoic acid. Anti-wrinkle skin care products with lipoic acid as the main ingredient are also available for skin that is prone to dryness, fine lines or aging.
Lipoic acid is used to improve terminal or polyneuropathy that has already occurred in diabetic patients at a dose of 500-600 mg per day, which can be taken in 2-3 divided doses, as much as possible with food, to avoid gastrointestinal discomfort, Lipoic acid needs to be taken for at least three weeks to begin to have an effect, and in patients with mild-to-moderate diabetes, only 200-300 mg of Lipoic acid per day is usually required for general maintenance, or in combination with other antioxidant ingredients In combination, you usually only need to take about 20-50 mg per day.
